If this spring is any indication, we might be in for quite a summer of XC flying in the Alps!

Last week, during another bout of brilliant spring conditions, Luc Armant, David Dagault, and Nicole Fedele all had splendid flights on their Ozone wings.

Luc and Dav, our designers, were ostensibly “working” when on Friday they launched from Col de Bleyne (near the Ozone office) and, not forgetting their passports, flew 339 and 325kms respectively. For the retrieve, Dav managed the same trick he pulled in 2009 when he flew 333kms with the BBHPP and then caught an EasyJet flight home the next morning

Click to see Luc’s Tracklog, and also Dav’s. As far as we know, Luc’s 339kms is now currently the longest flight that has been declared in the Alps.

The same day, Italian pilot Nicole Fedele flew an amazing 208km in the Italian Alps with her R10.2. Nicole has submitted this flight to the FAI for two world records: Women’s Distance For an Out and Return Flight, and Women’s Speed over a 200km Out and Return Flight. We hope her records are ratified, as she clearly deserves the recognition for such an amazing job. Nicole’s tracklog can be seen here.

Also, Arduino Persello set a new world record out and return flight with his 267km out and return in Italy. Excellent work Arduino! See his tracklog here. Arduino’s flight will hopefully stand alongside Nicole’s in the record books.

The fact that these incredible new distance flights are being made on Ozone Mantra R series wings is something that we’re very proud of, but to us it mainly highlights the fact that we’re nowhere near the limits of paraglider performance! Dav and Luc both agreed that this was almost an average day, and that 400kms in the Alps is probably already possible. We’re excited to see what the future will bring!
